How is prednisone used (MOA)
Anti inflammatory or immunosuppressive agent
What warnings come with prednisone
May lead to HPA axis suppression. Can cause Cushing syndrome and hyperglycemia
What is mycophenolate used for
MPA is an immunosuppressive drug. It can treat RA. Also helps with transplantation acceptance
What is the warning associated with mycophenolate
Birth defects and miss carriage
What type of contraceptives is advised when taking mycophenolate?
Additional barrier contraceptives. ( do not take this drug w antacids, PPI or a decrease in enterohepatic circulation)
When is methotrexate indicated
Life threatening neoplasms or severe RA or psoriasis.
Who can prescribe methotrexate
Bc of serious toxicity only physicians who deal with Antimetabolite therapy
How can methotrexate affect the lung?
Lung disease. Very toxic to basically everything
What will increase the concentration of methotrexate and what is the effect
NSAIDs and causes death from toxicity
What decreases intestinal absorption of methotrexate
Broad spectrum antibiotics
How do penicillins affect methotrexate
Decrease renal clearance
Levels of which metabolite needs monitoring while on methotrexate
Theophylline
What is azathioprine used for
Prevention of renal homotransplantation and management of RA (but not in pregnant women)
BBW for azathioprine
Increases chance of maligmancy
What is nintedanib for
Idiopathic pulm fibrosis
