Questions that elicit a yes or no or short answer.
What are open-ended questions?
Questions that provide the patient with freedom to answer and encourages elaboration

A sequence of questions beginning with a broad topic and narrowing down to a specific item

- There is a clear understanding of the problem
- Previous attempts to deal with the difficulty have been investigated
