What is Cooley’s theory on how identities are formed?
A
- Identity is formed based on how we think other people see us.
- We either behave as how people see us or try to change our behaviour to change peoples views of us.

What is Goffman’s theory on how identity is formed?
A
- Goffman sees society like a stage, with people acting put performances.
- People try to project particular impressions of themselves
- Such as by acting a specific way and then trying to convince others that this is their identity.
- Goffman also says that there is a public area where people try to ‘perform’, these individuals stop performing in a private area.

Labelling is similar to the looking glass self because both opinions are formed based on how people view them and their perceptions of them.
