There is 1 speaker at a time and a bunch of listeners. Signs are large and more pronounced role shifting.
What is the CONSULTATIVE register ?
When the individuals involved have expert status and there is a desire to communicate between both parties. Teacher to student, doctor to patient.
What is the INFORMAL register ?
Participants have equal status. Friend to friend.
What is the INTIMATE register ?
Communication between people who have history. Family, friends, lovers.
