Internal Structure Of Leaf Flashcards
What is the upper epidermis?
It is a single layer of closely packed cells covered by cuticle
What is the lower epidermis?
Same as the upper epidermis but it had openings called stomatas
What are the 2 types of mesophyll tissues?
Palliside tissue and Spongy Tissue
What is the palliside tissue?
It is a couple of layers of closely packed cells, is long and cylindrical and has numerous chloroplasts
What is the spongy tissue?
These tissues are irregular and loosely arranged, they’re roun and have chloroplast
What does the cuticle do?
It protects the leaf, prevents excessive water loss and focuses light on the mesophyll layers
State 2 differences between epidermal and guard cells
Guard cells are bean shaped whereas epidermal cells are irregular. Guard cells have chloroplast whereas epidermal cells don’t
