Human Eye Flashcards
State the outer, middle and inner layer of the eye
Outer: Cornea
Middle: Pupil and Iris
Inner: Lens
Give points about the location of the eye
-Within the depression in the skull (orbit/socket)
-Eyeball is attached to the orbit by 6 rectus muscles to move it within the orbit
Define conjunctiva
A thin, transparent membrane covering eyeball from being exposed, it is a thin and continuous layer with the skin of the eyelids
What is the Eyelid?
-It protects the eyeball
-Controls the amount of light entering the eye
-Wipes out the dust particles
-Spreads tears through the eye and prevents drying up
What balances the formation of images?
Brain & Retina
Whats the main component to see?
Light
Light falling on an object is…
…reflected and some of it is refracted
State the journey of light going through the eye
Refraction > Cornea > Aqueous Humor > Lens > Retina
How does the image on the retina activate/stimulate rods or cones?
Image on the retina activates or stimulates either rods or cones depending on the intensity of light
Image formed on the retina will be…
-Upside down (Inverted)
-Back to front (Reversed)
-Smaller in size then the object observed (Diminished)
-Rods and Cones > Optic nerve > Cerebrum > Right way up and right size > Retina
What’s the meaning of ‘focusing?
Adjustment of lens in the right way is called focusing so that clear images of objects at different distances are formed on the retina
