In charge of employees on shift
Authorised to do discipline rewards and other activities to do with employees
Operational staff role
Aren’t responsible for other staff
Do day to day tasks for the business
Support staff
Carry out a specific role which helps a business to run
What is a hierarchical structure and flat
Hierarchical have more layers than a flat structure between directors and operational staff
Advantages flat structure
Fewer layers so communication is fast
Staff have greater responsibility to more opportunities
Disadvantages flat structure
Staff can be over stretched or over worked
Wide span of control so managers have too many staff to manage
Advantages hierarchical structure
Lots of layers so more promotion opportunities
Small span of control so know staff well
Disadvantages hierarchical structure
More expensive as more managers
Communication may be slow
