Word or phrase used to express a feeling or to request or demand something.
INTERJECTION
Type of interjection where it can only be used as an interjection. It does not have alternative meanings and can’t function as another part of speech. They’re typically just sounds without a clear etymology (etymology: the study of the origin of words).
PRIMARY INTERJECTIONS
e.g.: uh-huh, shh, yipee
Interjection that is typically used as another part of speech (such as a noun, verb, or adjective) that can also be used as an interjection. The expressions are usually words or phrases.
SECONDARY INTERJECTIONS
e.g.: disgusting! gross! awesome!
Interjection used to give a command or make a request.
VOLITIVE INTERJECTION
e.g.: psst/ahem (getting attention), shh (be quiet)
Interjection used to express an or to indicate a reaction to something.
EMOTIVE INTERJECTION
e.g.: yay (joy), aw (sadness), huh (confusion), ew (disgust)
Interjection used to greet a person or send regards.
GREETINGS INTERJECTION
e.g.: hello, hi, hey, good bye
Interjection used to express a thought or indicate a thought process.
COGNITIVE INTERJECTION
e.g.: uh, uhm, I want, wow
