Interferons Flashcards
What are interferons
Signalling proteins released by host cells in response to the presence of viruses
3 major functions of interferons
Anti viral
Anti proliferative
Immuno/auto regulatory
MOA of interferons
Induces host cell ribosome to cause anti viral effect through cellular biochemical processes
3 Types of Interferons
Aplha 2a
Alpha 2b
Gamma
Production of each type of interferons
Aplha - leukocyte infected with viruses
Beta - fibroblasts infected with viruses
Gamma - stimulation of sensitised lymphocytes with antigen or non sensitised with mitogens
Type 1 Interferons
Cytokines which play an important role in inflammation, immunoregulations, tumor cell recognition and T cell responses
Type 2 Interferons
Immune system regulation.
