Self-compassion exercise.
Try these steps:
- List all activities you feel you “have to do” using the words “I have to …”
- Clearly acknowledge to yourself you are doing these things because you choose to -> replace words with “I choose to …”
- Get in touch with the intention behind the statement by completing with “because I want …”
- These values will help eliminate those that aren’t in line with your needs
Motivations might be:
- Money is not a need, rather a strategy that is used to address a need
- Reward might be a motivation. We are addicted to getting smiles, try to be liked. This is social conditioning.
- To avoid shame or guilt - we will end up resenting these tasks
- Out of duty - the most unfortunate and socially dangerous of the lot
- When we speak a language that denies choice we forfeit life for a robot-like mentality that disconnects us from our own core
- This is how genocide happens

Steps:
- List the judgements most frequently in your head by writing a list starting “I don’t like people who are”
- List what thoughts come to you
- Collect these negative judgements in your head and ask at “what need might I be having at that moment that is being expressed through that judgement?”
