What is the country team? (3)
It is the heart of EMB operational decison-making in virtually all posts overseas
Guides the mission throughout the country
COM chairs the country team meetings
Ambassador
nominated by the president and confirmed by Senate
70% career diplomats/ 30% political appointees
COM has authority over all Executive Branch employees in the HN except those under the authority of a US military commander, another COM, or those on the staff on an international organization
DCM
is like the COO of the embassy and acts as charge d affaires in the absence of the COM
acts as primary crisis manager before, during, and after a crisis
DAT
a military attache is a high ranking military official who is sent overseas to assist and advise the USAMBO in different regions of the world. This is a diplomatic position and is critical to the intelligence community in the US, as it is constant communication with relevant actors
RSO (2)
is the principal security attache and advisor to the USAMBO at USEMB and consulates.
The RSO is also the senior law enforcement representative at the USEMB
Marine Security Guard Detachment
provides internal security services at designated US diplomatic and consular facilities
secondary mission is to provide protection to USPER and USG property at US facilities during circumstances that require immediate aid or action
CIA
serves as an independent source of analysis on topics o concern and also works closely with the other organizations in the IC to ensure that the intelligence consumer receives the best intelligence possiible.
DEA (3)
cooperation with foreign LEA is essential to DEA mission
DEA also seeks US indictments agains t major foreign traffickers who have committed crimes against US citizens
DEA and US SOF relationships are critical to the mission success of both organization
Medical unit/Regional Medical Officer
USEMB and consulate health units vary from post to post, depending on the size of the mission, local medical capabilities and the needs of the community.
