INTERACTIONS AMONG ORGANISMS Flashcards
TYPES OF INTERACTION
Intraspecific Relationship
Interspecific Relationship
- is a population ecology interaction in which members of the same species fight for a restricted number of resources.
Examples : Two male birds of the same species might compete for mates in the same area.
*Intraspecific Relationship
Any relationship involving the coexistence and interaction of two or species. When a larger animal consumes the flesh of a smaller animal.
Example: Marine mammals or species that often eat the same type of fish in ocean ecosystem.
Interspecific Relationship
Any relationship involving the coexistence and interaction of two or species. When a larger animal consumes the flesh of a smaller animal.
Interspecific Relationship
is a naturally occurring interaction or close living relationship between organisms of different species that benefits one or both parties.
symbiosis
have a long lifespan,
Obligate symbioses
are more recent behavioral adaptations that can evolve into obligate symbioses given enough time.
facultative symbioses
SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP may be:
a). Mutualism
b). Commensalism
c). Parasitsm
- are interactions between organisms of two different species in which each organism benefits in some way from the other.
It can involve the exchange of resources like shelter, food, and other nutrients, or services like protection, transportation, and healthcare.
Mutualisms
- it is the relationship between two species, in which both are completely dependent on each other. Neither the participant could survive without the other.
Continuous Association
- a type of mutualism in which the interacting species derive benefit from each other but not being fully dependent that each other cannot survive without the symbiotic partner.
Transitory Association
*A relationship between individuals of two species in which one species obtains food or other benefits from the other without either harming or benefiting the latter.
Commensalism
- – the organism that benefits.
Commensal
- – the organism that which is neither harmed or benefited.
Host
relationship between two species of plants or animals in which one benefits at the expense of the other sometimes without killing the host.
Parasitism
