deviance amplification spiral
attempts to control deviance increases deviance, this leads to more attempt to control which then increase deviance.
Cohen- folk devil and moral panics
media lie, call for crackdown on youths, police arrest more, shows truth in the moral panic, so more cries for crackdown, mods and rockers then start to be more deviant.
