Miller - functionalism
w/c have their own values and norms these clash with mainstream ones- why they commit more crime.
Marxism- capitalism is criminogenic
capitalism’s very nature causes crime. W/c are oppressed, go to crime- due to poverty, want consumer goods, frustrated with oppression

Britain had East African colonies who had tea etc, they didn’t have money, to make them work for us we created a tax payable by cash only, could only get money by working for us.
Pearce (Marxism)
laws that look like they help the workers also help the ruling, eg keeping workers fit and healthy, gives capitalism a caring face.
Types of corporate crime-
finaical- tax evasion
crime against consumers- selling bad goods
crime against employees- discrimination
crime against environment- waste dumping
state-corporate crime- gov and businesses work together to pursue their goals.

invisibility of corporate crime
Media- little coverage on corporate crime and use different langue to make look better.
Lack of political will- focus on street crime.
Crimes often to complex- police struggle
De Labelling- not labelled- fines not jail.
Under reporting- people unaware they are victims as it effects are large- eg pollution
Box
company can’t maximise its profits through legal means it will use illegal means.

individuals joining companies that did illegal price fixing they soon joined.

those in power avoid being labelled. lawyers stop things being labelled criminal.
