Not talking about labelling but about how labelling impacts students . Suggested that teachers see middle class pupils as closets to the ideal pupil in terms of performance , conduct , appearance and attitudes . Whilst working class pupils are the furthest from this ideal .
Also suggesting that for many teachers , these criteria of attitudes , appearances etc were important in making judgements about pupils than ability or attendance
Argue that the labels applied by teachers to pupils shape the mature and quality of the interaction between pupil and teacher - leads to self fulfilling prophecy
