Intelligence and Tasking & Coordination Flashcards
What is the purpose of intelligence?
Provide timely, accurate and relevant insight and foresight to enhance the organisation’s tactical, operational & strategic decision making.
Intelligence has four direct components - list them
- People
- Process
- Product
- Partnerships
Describe the ‘process’ component of intelligence.
Involves collection, evaluation, analysis, integration and interpretation of disparate pieces of information in order to address intelligence requirements.
How does intelligence add value?
Through:
Insight - understanding beyond immediately observable, understanding drivers behind what is in front of us
and;
Foresight - predictive analysis of what we can expect in the future, including identification of opportunities and threats
What percentage of crime is estimated to be reported?
25%
Intelligence is guided by seven principles - list them.
- Timely
- Objective
- Accessible
- Actionable
- Complete
- Dynamic
- Predictive
(TOAACDP - (haha - easy to remember!)).
What are the seven steps in the Intelligence Cycle?
- Direction (intent)
- Collection
- Evaluation
- Collation
- Analysis (interpret)
- Dissemination (influence)
- Review (impact)
“The process of receiving, logging, storing and cross-referencing information so it can be easily located and retrieved for analysis” is what step in the intelligence cycle?
Collation
Describe ‘Direction’ in the intelligence cycle
Requirements identified by commanders and decision makers or by Intelligence through the scanning process or the identification of leads.
What is the 4i model?
INTERPRETING demand environment, Supporting decision-maker INTENT, INFLUENCING decisions, building intelligence that IMPACTS on the demand environment.
The 4i model has three main components and four connecting elements. List these with the main components first.
- Demand Environment
- Decision-Maker
- Intelligence
Impact; Intent & Influence; Interpret.
Critical Command Information (CCI) comprises the key information sources that must be considered to ensure resource deployment decisions are well informed. What at the six strands of CCI?
- Our Business
- Intelligence
- Performance
- Evidence-based policing
- Resources
- Demand
What is the ‘hub and spoke’ model?
Intelligence resource in NZ highlighting centralised coordination and decentralised execution, with the NIC as the ‘hub’ and districts intel as spokes.
What are the three levels of intelligence and their descriptions?
- Tactical: supports tactical decision in the operational space or specific projects
- Operational: Issues, patterns and trends supporting investigations, operations or policy programmes
- Strategic: Predictive assessments of future crime and harm demand with a view to informing decisions on strategy and policy
The material identifies 11 intel products. Outline what a ‘problem profile’ is.
Focuses on specific policing problems and aligns with Problem-Oriented Policing through the use of the SARA and PANDA problem solving models.
