Intelligence and schooling Flashcards
What are three broad traits signaling intelligence?
Verbal ability
Practical problem solving
Social competence
Who started the Holistic view of intelligence?
Alfred binet
What is the holistic view of inteligence?
there is a mental age that can be compared with the actual age through academical testing to yield a IQ score.
What is the multifacited view of inteligence?
Inteligence is broken down into certain skills but is generally concidered to stem from one general factor known as (g)
What is crystallized intelligence?
accumulated knowledge
vocabulary or general information could be exampels of crystallized intelligence
What is Fluid intelligence?
Information processing, How things relate to eachother, processing speed and working memory capacity
What is the Three-stratum theory of intelligence
Its a view of inteligence broken down into three steps.
The general stratum is General intelligence that influences all others
The broad stratum that broadens it further to things like processing speed or fluid intelligence.
Finaly the Specific stratum that is the individual messurable skills.
What is theoretical approach to intelligence?
Legit, dont know, google it bro
What are the three parts in Sternberg’s triarchic theory and what is achived if they are balanced?
Analytical, creative and practical
Balancing the three results in successful inteligence which is what we call behaving intelligently.
Gardner’s multiple intelligence theory says what?
Dismisses the idea of g as a generall factor to inteligence.
instead divide into eight distinct intelligences tapped by different tests
What is a normative mental age?
The age when a task can be passed successfuly by most children.
How is Chronological and mental age different?
Chronological age is your actual age, Mental age is your preformance level
Name three measurments of intelligence.
Stanford binet scale
(2-85)
The baley scales of infant development
(1-42)
the wechsler intelligence scales (2.6 - 90)
How is intelligence influenced by nature vs nurture?
Its influenced by both but by nature alot more than nurture. the further in live we go the smaller impact nurture has.
What is the flynn effect?
IQ scores population wise is increasing over time.
