A

After initial training and consolidation, you will be employed as an all-source intelligence analyst. Opportunities may arise to undertake further training in a specialized field such as language, counter intelligence, ground intelligence, instructor assessor and training development courses.

A

• Advanced language or additional language courses (up to diploma in applied language level) = (Linguist)
o 5 – 48 weeks (language dependant)
o Defence Force School of Languages @ RAAF Base Williams at Laverton, VIC.
• ADF Collection Operators Course
o 19 weeks @ DF School of Signals – Electronic Warfare Wing at Cabarlah, QLD
o Security procedures
o Radio Communications principles (such as radiotelephony and logging procedures)
o Radio Theory (learning about radio receivers/transmitters, antenna types, radio propagation, etc.) and
o Apply your intelligence skills in utilising specialist equipment and procedures

o To graduate from the course you must be capable of providing all-source intelligence analysis support to aerospace and air base operation at the operational and tactical levels

Working Conditions

A

Mostly in a modern, air-conditioned offices, but it may include deployment to remote areas in Australia or overseas to support of exercises and operations; in security-accredited cabins or tents.

Positives/Negatives?

A

I realise that if deployed overseas I could be away from Australia for months at a time. It would be hard being away from family but I also think it would be a really unique opportunity.

A

Description:
• Operate sophisticated surveillance equipment used to intercept signals and collect information
• Analyse intelligence from a variety of sources
• Conduct counterintelligence activities
• Prepare intelligence reports
• Carry out battle space visualisations
• Organise image capture and analysis
• Prepare mission support packs for air, ground, space, and cyber operations
Specialist Techniques:
• The translation, speaking, reading and interpretation of foreign language material from various sources, involving you in everything from highly sensitive missions to disaster-relief operations overseas.
• Counterintelligence activities involving, surveillance detection, secondary human screening activities, threat identification and exploitation activities.
• The provision of tactical ground intelligence in support of combat protection elements in both fixed and expeditionary environments

Why do you want to be an Intelligence Analyst (Operations)

A

I think the role of IA aligns well with my own interests and strength. I enjoy researching and problem-solving. In particular I’m interested in the linguist specialisation and language training.
