Intelligence Flashcards
Who created the initial IQ test? Why?
Alfred Binet created it to identify children who were likely to need special help in their schooling.
What are the 5 categories of the Wechsler intelligence scale for children (WISC-V)?
- Verbal comprehension
- Visual Spatial
- Processing speed
- Working memory
- Fluid reasoning
What are some examples of cultural factors which can affect performance on intelligence tests?
Any of:
- Traditions (including education)
- Socio-economic environment
- Language and dialect
- Others I’m sure

- Belief in success
- Current physical/mental state
- Influence of the tester
- Misleading items
- Specific abilities required (speed, dexterity, etc.)
True or False: it is possible for intellectual abilities measured on intelligence tests to change throughout childhood.
True. Seems intuitive (haha) that a lot would impact these test scores on any given day.
What 3 components make up Sternberg’s Triarchic Theory of Intelligence?
- Componential (from IQ tests)
- Contextual (street smarts)
- Experiential (creativity, eureka moments)
