Basal Cell Carcinoma (80% of all skin cancer)
The most common form of _____ ____ _________ appears as a small hard lump in the skin with rounded pink pearly edges and a soft sunken middle.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
What is the cardinal sign of nonmelanoma skin cancer?
Lesions that itch and bleed easily but don’t hurt and don’t heal
Basal Cell Carcinoma
A slow growing tumor of basal cells in the epidermis. It rarely metastasizes but will probably invade other tissues if left untreated.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
A cancer of skin cells that arises in keratinocytes superficial to the basal layer, usually appearing in areas exposed to sunlight, the main risk factor). It rarely metastasizes. It shares the typical nonmelanoma skin cancer pattern: no painful lesions that itch or bleed and don’t heal.
Malignant Melanoma
Skin cancer of the melanocytes that can quickly become life threatening because it quickly metastasizes to the bones, liver or central nervous system.
First, second and third degree burns
First degree: mild irritation to the superficial dermis. No blisters and heal in 2-3 days
Second: damage into deeper layers of epidermis. Blisters will be present.
Third: damage to the dermis or deeper
Decubitus ulcers
Also known as bed sores, pressure sores, and tropic ulcers. They are caused by inadequate blood flow to skin that is compressed between bone and another surface. The skin cells die and then bacteria invade.
In what settings do Decubitus Ulcers commonly occur?
Hospitals and nursing homes
On the body where do decubitus ulcers commonly occur?
Sacrum, ischial tuberosity, elbows or anywhere that tissue is compressed for more than two hours.

Fungal infections spread by…
Touching anything that has fungus on it

Work through the sheet on that area and do not apply heavy pressure
What is the liver’s role in acne vulgaris?
The liver detoxifies the body and filters out toxins that would otherwise excrete through the skin, which could contribute to acne.
Severe burns to at least 15% of the body can lead to…
Infection, shock or circulatory collapse
A common complication to healed 3rd degree burns is…
disfiguring scars snd limited mobility of the skin
