Integumentary System Flashcards
DERMIS
Fibroblasts are the main type of cell found here
EPONYCHIUM
Nail cuticle
Most superficial layer of dermis.
Accounts for 20% of the thickness of dermis
Consists of loose connective tissue
Papillary
PAPILLARY LAYER
20% of the thickness of dermis
Loose connective tissue
5 layers of the epidermis from deep to superficial
Brilliant Studying Gives Loads of Confidence
Stratum Basale Stratum Spinosum Stratum Granulosum Stratum Lucidum Stratum Corneum
Dense irregular connective tissue
Collagen fibers in this layer are bundled together to add strength and help prevent traumatic injuries from reaching deeper tissues
Responsible for stretch marks ( when elastin fibers break)
Responsible for tension or cleavage lines
Responsible for Flexure Lines
Reticular Layer
Responsible for cellulite- when collagen bands from around adipose tissue
Hypodermis (also called subcutaneous tissue)
Gaps between bundles of collagen that indent the epidermis and form lines that normally run in a circle in neck and trunk and longitudinally in head and upper and lower limbs
Reticular Layer of Dermis is responsible for these
Tension/Cleavage Lines
Pronounced in the area of the palms and posterior surface of fingers and toes where reticular layer is anchored to deeper structures
Flexure Lines
Fingerprint patterns
Epidermal ridges
