Instruments and Navigation Aids Flashcards
Airbus/Boeing terminology for two main screens
PFD/ND - Airbus; EADI/EHSI - Boeing
When is a TA and RA issued?
TA: When Closest point of approach (CPA) of a target is within 40 seconds distance and is within 1200ft of our aircraft; RA: When CPA is within 25 seconds and is within 900ft.
If you have a TCAS 2 unit, what guidance will be provided if intruder has Mode A/C transponder; TCAS 1; TCAS 2?
Mode A: TA; Mode C: TA and RA; TCAS 1: TA and RA; TCAS 2: TA and Co-ordinated RA
What is the glide slope full scale deviation (ILS)?
0.7 degrees either side (70ft/nm)
Inputs to GPWS are:
Air Data Computer; Radio Altimeter; ILS Glideslope; Flap Position; Gear Position
What is the function of the FMA?
The function of the Flight mode annunciator is to alert the pilot to the current mode of the autopilot flight director system.
How can an approximate altitude for the glide slope be determined (3 degree glideslope)
300ft/nm - multiply distance by 300.
Difference between TCAS 1 and 2?
TCAS 1 provides traffic advisories and proximity warning of nearby traffic; TCAS 2 provides traffic advisories and resolution advisories.
Minimum CVR recording time:
30 minutes
What is Total Air Temperature (TAT)?
TAT is Static Air Temperature (SAT or OAT) + Ram Rise
What are the TAWS modes?
1 Excessive descent rate; 2 Excessive terrain closure rate; 3 Altitude loss after take-off or go-around; 4 Unsafe terrain clearance without gear/flap in landing configuration; 5 Aircraft too low during ILS approach; 6 Bank Angle and altitude call outs; 7 Windshear
What is the Localiser CDI scaling on an ILS?
2.5 degrees either side (4x more sensitive than a VOR)
What are the basic inputs to an air data computer?
Pitot, Static, Temperature, AoA
