Steps for ID injection
(After greeting patient and introduction)

A
  1. Wash/sanitize hands
  2. Gather correct syringe/ needle based on the order given
  3. Verify the right medication, dose, route, patient, and time by comparing the order with the label on medication container
  4. Prepare Syringe and vial: withdraw correct dosage of 0.1 mL.
  5. Ask patient if they’ve ever had a positive reaction to a PPD. If no: proceed.
  6. position self lower than the patient
    7.Select injection location down the mid anterior aspect of arm, avoid any scarred, discolored, or pigmented areas
  7. Clean with alcohol wipe
  8. Uncap needle, hold needle facing MA with right hand, and stretch skin with left hand. Do not aspirate, release medication, until you see bubble
  9. remove needle from forearm, safety the needle on table
  10. Dispose needle in sharps container, and dispose gloves in biohazard and sanitize hands
  11. Document the procedure and location of injection.

Steps for a subcutaneous injection
(After greeting patient and introduction)

  1. Wash/sanitize hands

  3. Verify the right medication, dose, route, patient, and time by comparing the order with the label on medication container
  4. Prepare Syringe and vial: withdraw correct dosage of 0.5 mL.
  5. Take medication to patient, ask them to sit upright and to expose upper posterior arm (make sure clothing will not fall)
  6. Sanitize area, uncap needle
  7. grasp fatty tissue, hold needle in 45 degree angle
  8. Insert, release left hand, aspirate and push in medication slowly until administered
  9. Remove needle, safety needle on table, massage medication.
  10. Add bandaid and throw syringe in sharps container. Cotton in biohazard
  11. Document procedure, medication/ dosage, lot number, expiration date, arm location, and initials.

Steps for a Intramuscular injection
(After greeting patient and introduction)

  4. Prepare Syringe and vial: withdraw correct dosage of 0.5 mL.

  6. Sanitize area, uncap needle
  7. grasp muscle with left hand, hold needle on right hand in a 90 degree angle
  8. Insert, release left hand and aspirate needle and push in medication slowly until medication is administered.
  9. Remove needle, safety needle on table, massage medication.
  10. Add bandaid and throw syringe in sharps container. Cotton in biohazard
  11. Document procedure, medication/ dosage, lot number, expiration date, arm location, and initials.
