What does prior sedation with alpha2 agonists cause in horses?
Excitement and incoordination
For what propofol is used?
Sedation, epileptia
What does daily usage of propofol cause in cats?
Heinz body formation. This can cause facial oedema, anorexia and diarrhea
What does ketamine cause?
Causes a change in awareness = cataleptic (seems to be awake, but is not aware).
What is ketamine used with?
Acebromazine (which is a neuroleptic. Actually the only one neuroleptic used in vetmed) Because Ketamine does not relax muscles on its own.
What receptors are involved with Ketamine?
Does not interfere with GABA, prevents glutamate from binding —> causes depression of thalamocortical and limbic depression.
Opiate receptors, muscarinic and NMDA are affected.
Alfaxalone and propofol don’t contain what?
Preservatives! Remember to throw away (bacterial infection)
Alfaxalone is a dedicate of progesterone
Sex specific differences are possible when treating animals!
Drug combination with Ketamine choices are?
Opioids
Alpha 2 agonists
