Beta-lactam ABs Flashcards
Penicillin G get inactivated
By stomach acid!
Give parenterally
Penicillins do what to the bacteria… so they are… are what?
Bactericidal
What is good to treat with penicillin?
Urinary to infection. Bladder. It goes there unchanged
What is penicillin V
It is a penicillin that is acid resistant!
So you can give it orally with ease because it won’t get destroyed by stomach acid
Say a broad spectrum penicillin antibiotic drug?
Amoxicillin. It leaves the kidneys slower because it is semi synthetic.
Potentiated penicillins
Amoxicillin with Clavunilic acid
Cephalosporins cannot be used on patients that are allergic to…?
Don’t give if patient is allergic to penicillin
Cephalosporins are given to what infections?
What side effect can it cause? How to avoid that?
What is a more serious side effect of cephalosporins?
Skeletal, urinary, soft tissue and respiratory infections.
Can cause vomiting. That can be avoided with not giving drug with food.
Can be nephrotoxic
What two antibiotics are preserved for human medicine?
Garbapenems and monobactams.
These two are against most anaerobic and aerobic bacteria!
What are beta-lactam ABs?
Penicillin, cephalosporins, garbapenems and monobactams
