What is the initial priority for operations?
Life
Additional Hoseline?
A second hoseline of equal or greater GPM than the first required to support the push or extinguishment efforts of the first hoseline (critical flow not met with 1st hoseline)
Backup Hoseline?
A second “tactical” hoseline used to protect a working hoselines position and/or egress.
What are the parts of the condition report?
Unit Designation: Apparatus type/identification
Building Description:Residential, Commercial, High-Rise, etc.
Conditions: What is burning? Where is the fire? Where is it going? Smoke density? Smoke pressure? Smoke color?
Exposures: Location? Distance? Occupied? Condition?
Establish & Name Command: “Establishing Shattuck IC”
Command Options: Command, Fast Attack, Investigation
Operational Strategy: Offensive, Defensive
Status of Water Supply: Secured, required and type (forward/reverse/shuttle)
Declare Working Fire
Assignments*: Group, Division, Tactical Assignments
Tactical Channel Assignment
Switch to designated TAC
“Engine 2 on scene of a working fire in a two story residential, heavy fire from 1st floor windows and front door on the Alpha side. Resident stating we have a rescue on the 2nd floor Alpha Delta corner. Engine 2 will be establishing Main Street IC and initiating offensive fire attack, Truck 2 you are rescue group. Engine 4 we need you to lay in a supply. Switching to TAC 51.”
What are the actions of the companies?
1st Engine“Attack” • Establish/pass command, initial condition report, identify and state command mode and strategy. • Control the door if open. • Complete a 360, if possible. • Initiate appropriate tactics. • May secure water supply (or delegate).
2nd Engine “Back-Up” • Should secure water supply (if not completed).
• Pump the hydrant for fires that require high GPM (>1000GPM).
• Complete a 360, if possible.
• Assist with advancement of first hoseline.
• Leaves members at the entrance and interior pinch points.
• Pull second hoseline as necessary (additional/backup).
• Primary search and rescue
• Consider exposures (six sides).
3rd Engine
“Interior or On Deck” • Consider opposing approach to fire.
• Locate secondary water supply for fires that require high GPM (>1000GPM).
• Complete a 360, if possible.
• Primary or secondary search and rescue
• Begin overhaul around fire – containment.
• Pull hoselines as necessary.
• Consider exposures (six sides).
4th Engine
“RIC” • Establish RIC operations/staging area.
• Complete a 360, if possible.
• Soften the building (ground ladders to roof, windows where personnel are operating, force alternate exits – but leave them closed, etc.)
• Control utilities.
1st Truck
• Complete a 360, if possible.
• Search & rescue
• Forcible entry
• Coordinated ventilation
1st Amb. • Request assignment through IC
• Prepare to assist with hoseline advancement, overhaul, or ventilation operations based on arrival.
• Prepare for treatment and transport when there is an imminent rescue occurring upon arrival.
1st Chief • Assume IC.
• R.E.C.E.O.V.S
2nd Chief • Complete 360 and report back to IC, and/or
• Assume Incident Command, or
• Establish Operations, or
• Assume Division of Group, or
• Assume Plans/Logistics, or
• Cover the City.
