LOOK (for facial/neck injuries) EVALUATE 3-3-2 MALLAMPATI (retropharynx) OBSTRUCTION/OBESITY NECK MOBILITY (remove ant. cervical collar)
What is the evaluate 3-3-2 rule?
There should be: 3 fingers-width oral opening
3 fingers-width from tip of chin to hyoid bone
2 (pt) finger-widths from hyoid to thyroid notch
What 2 locations are acceptable for needle thoracotomy?
2nd intercostal space, mid-clavicular line
5th intercostal space, mid-axillary line
What kind of needle should be used for needle thoracotomy?
Large-bore angiocatheter (at least 14-gauge)
What are 5 sites in which significant hemorrhage can occur?
External Intrathoracic Intraperitoneal Retroperitoneal Pelvic/Long bone fracture
