What is the definition of a crime scene log?
A crime scene log records the details time and purpose of all persons who enter, attempt to enter or leave the crime scene, as well as any other activity around the crime scene which the scene guard perceives to be relevant to the case.
What are the categories that a victims medical status fall into?
Alive and uninjured
Is alive but injured Ambo, first aid, note if body moved, hospital
Victim shows no sign of life
When attending an incident what type of information should we try and obtain from complainant’s/informants?
ID and location of suspect, a first-hand account of what informant complainant knows, precise details of the location of the scene, circumstances leading to the discovery, ID of victim, details of anyone else at the scene, full contact details, demeanour of the complainant/informant, relationship of the complainant informant to the victim or suspect, details of any action complainant has taken, details of any hazards in or around the scene.
What are the benefits of applying an appreciation?
Informs all police what they are expected to achieve, increases the chances of success, establishes a sequence of activities to be carried out, manages risk, reduces uncertainty, eliminates duplication, Ensures nothing is overlooked, effective use of resources.

A proven method of problem solving. Process follows a set of steps to ensure optimum course of action is decided upon. Considers all appropriate factors and weighs the benefits and risks of all alternative solutions. An ongoing process.

Attending the scene at an early stage, taking control of the situation, coordinating tasks.
The initial action is vitally important and will affect the outcome of further inquiries. Positive action during the initial stages of an investigation can minimise any loss in maximise opportunity to secure relevant information. Actions taken and how they are prioritised will be critical to the success of the investigation
How should a member of the media be dealt with at the scene?
Keep them away from the immediate crime scene cordon and make no comment about the incident. Consult with the OC investigation on arrival and explain what has happened, identify media members and we they are located
