Inguinal Canal Flashcards
At what level do the gonads form?
T10
What is the process of “evagination of periotneal cavity” called?
Processus vaginalis
What is cryptorchid testis?
Undescended testicle
L1 + L2 Nerve
Genitofemoral N. –> sensory to medial thigh, innervates cremasteric M.
What passes throught the superficial ring?
spermatic cord (males)
round L. (females)
What passes through the Deep Ring?
Vas deferns + gonadal vessels
Where does lymph from the scrotum drain?
(S & S)
From superficial inguinal L.N.’s –> Lumbar L.N.’s
Where does lymph from the testicles drain?
Upper pelvic L.N.’s –> pre-aortic L.N.’s
What are the boundaries of the inguinal canal?

What are the boundaries of the inguinal triangle?
Medial: Rectus abdominis M.
Inferior Epigastric Vessels (above)
Inguinal L. (below)
What nerve runs through the inguinal canal?
Ilioinguinal N.
What is a variocele?
When veins (pampiniform plexus) become enlarged inside your scrotum.
What are the 3 things inside the spermatic cord?
- Vas deferns (sperm duct)
- Testicular A./V.’s (pampiniform plexus)
- Gonadal N.’s + lymph
What happens when the connection between the tunica vaginalis + abdomen remian open?
Persistent processus vaginalis
Hydrocele (peritoneal fluid accumulates inside tunica vaginalis)
Tunica vaginalis = patch of serous membrane that covers testes
Where does an indirect hernia occur?
Deep Ring
Where does a direct hernia occur?
W/in the Inguinal triangle (Hesselbach’s triangle)
Caused by weaking abdominal muscles, cause the periotneal sac enters the inguinal canal through the posterior wall (transversalis fascia)
What forms the superficial ring?
External Oblique M.
What forms the deep ring?
Transversalis fascia
Describe hernia sites

What does the Internal oblique muscle become?
Cremasteric M
What does the External oblique muscle become?
Scarpas Fascia
What does the transversalis fascia become?
Internal spermatic fascia
