physician has ethical obligation to make reasonable effects to ensure comprehension, explanations are clear and simple, questions are asked to assess understanding, written instructions or printed materials are provided
What is the relationship b/w informed consent, shared decision making, and autonomy?
Informed consent is the way in which patients preferences are expressed, IC is the application of respect for patient’s autonomy, and it is all characterized by mutual participation and shared decision making. I.e. IC is the practice of applying and documenting a shared decision
