Information Processing Flashcards
What is welford’s model?
1) display (environment eg team mates)
2) sensory information (extroceptors-visual, touch. Proprioceptors-nerve-what position we’re in etc. kinesthetic and equilibrium)
3) sense organs (interceptors - heart, lungs etc)
4) perceptual mechanism (making sense of info - detection, comparison, recognition
5) effector mechanism (motor programme carries out movement)
6) response (what you actually do)
7) feedback (new info may be displayed received internal or external)
What are the 3 stages of information processing?
An input occurs
1) stimulus identification (sensory, pays attention as it stands out)
2) response selection (deciding what movement to do)
3) response programming (organised the motor system - muscles and nerves
What is whiting’s model?
1) display (environement)
2) receptor systems (sense organs that receive info)
3) perceptual mechanism
4) translatory mechanism (part of the brain which sorts out the relevant info and makes decisions)
5) output (carries out the decisions and send nerve impulses to the muscles)
6) feedback (during the motor programme the display may change - internal or external)
What are the factors affecting information processing?
- intensity of stimulus
- quality of sensory receptors
- reaction time
- ability to anticipate what’s going to happen
- ability to concentrate
- level of arousal
- motivation
- fitness level
- Age
- amount of information
