Information Flashcards
What does a red traffic light indicate?
Red means “Stop.” Wait behind the stop line on the carriageway. You may turn left only if it is safe to do so after coming to a complete stop.
What does a red and amber traffic light indicate?
Red and amber also means “Stop.” Do not pass through or start until green shows.
What does a green traffic light indicate?
Green means you may go if the way is clear. Take special care if you intend to turn left or right and give way to pedestrians crossing.
What does an amber traffic light indicate?
Amber means “Stop” at the stop line. You may go on only if the amber appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident.
What does a green arrow traffic light indicate?
A green arrow may be provided in addition to the full green signal if movement in a certain direction is allowed before or after the full green phase. You may go in the direction shown by the arrow if the way is clear.
What should you do when you see a green arrow traffic light?
You must turn in the direction the arrow is pointing after giving way to any vehicle, bicyclist, or pedestrian still in the junction. The green arrow allows you to make a “protected” turn.
What does an amber arrow traffic light indicate?
An amber arrow means “Stop” at the stop line on the carriageway. You are changing from a protected turn to a permissive turn.
What does a broken yellow line indicate?
A broken yellow line in the center of the roadway indicates that crossing over into the oncoming traffic lane for overtaking and passing another vehicle is permitted if it is safe to do so.
What do double yellow lines with one solid and one broken indicate?
A solid yellow line immediately to the right of your lane indicates that crossing the centerline to overtake and pass another vehicle is prohibited, while a broken yellow line indicates that it is permitted if safe to do so.
What do double solid yellow lines indicate?
Double solid yellow lines indicate that overtaking and passing is prohibited in both directions.
What does a broken white line indicate?
A broken white line indicates that it is permissible to cross the line to change lanes and move into an adjacent lane moving in the same direction.
What are reversible lanes?
Reversible lanes are lanes used for traffic in one direction during part of the day and for traffic in the other direction during other parts of the day. Double broken yellow lines mark both sides of a reversible lane.
How are reversible lanes indicated on the road?
Reversible lanes are indicated by double broken yellow lines, which supplement signs or overhead signals indicating which lanes are available for use at different days and times.
What is a centre lane used for in a two-way roadway?
A centre lane is used for traffic making right turns. It is marked by broken yellow lines on both sides. Vehicles turning right from the flow of traffic and vehicles turning right from side streets use the centre lane. Overtaking using a centre lane is prohibited in both directions.
What does diagram 2 indicate regarding double solid lines?
In diagram 2, drivers traveling in either direction may not cross double solid lines unless they are making a right turn.
