What is the basic presentation of both herpes simplex 1 and 2?
GRoup of vesicles with red base which rapidly becomes purulent and crusted
Describe the general difference between HSV1 and HSV2:
HSV 1: Primary infection usually occurs in childhood with lesions on the lips or face
HSV 2: STD of adults involving the genital area, primary infection extensive, painful vesiculations and necrosis
What medications are normally used for herpes simplex virus?
acyclovir, famciclovir, and valacyclovir
HSV is recurrent lifelong disease with no cure
Hallmark of herpes varicella?
Chickenpox
“dew drop on a rose petal”
fever, chills, malaise, 2-3 days before rash
What is herpes zoster and how does it occur?
Shingles
Recurrence of varicella - follows nerve root to a single dermatome (painful rash)
What does Porphyria Cutanea Tarda result from?
A deficiency in a heme-synthesizing enzyme
-REMEMBER - this is that one where you get hari in unusual places (hypertrichosis)
What is it called when you have hair growing in unusual places?
hypertrichosis
Hallmark of bullous pemphigoid?
Tense bullae on normal or erythematous skin
Hallmark of dermatitis herpetiformis?
Associated with Celiac disease
Clusters of erythematous pustules, excoriations, and vesicles
Hallmark of Pemphigus Vulgaris?
Flaccid Blisters everywhere
