what is a hep B non responder?
VaccineNon-Responders.
Ahepatitis Bvaccine “non-responder” refers to a person who doesnotdevelop protective surface antibodies after completing two full series ofthe hepatitis Bvaccine and for whom an acute or chronichepatitis B infection has been ruled out.
Hepatitis B vaccine “non-responders” who test negative for hepatitis B infectionare at risk for being infected and should be counselled regarding how to prevent a hepatitis B infection and to seek immediate medical care to receive a dose of hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) if they have been exposed to potentially infected blood
Contact Occupational Health and they will advise you to go to nearest hospital/Health Centre to get an Immunoglobulin injection.
Blood sample/tests that evening then, 3 and 6 months blood tests post incident
How is hep C contracted?

hepatitis C is there a vaccine?
No Vaccination available- however there is treatment available to treat the symptoms

Malignant neoplasm that can be found in those diagnosed with Aids
what is a prion?
abnormal protein
Not destroyed by extreme heat or radiation used to kill bacteria & viruses
how to deal with a needle stick injury?
Encourage bleeding by gently squeezing and cover
Do not suck the area
Wash with soap and warm water, and cover
Report Injury to supervisor
Do risk assessment
Patient should be informed of situation and asked permission to have bloods taken
If High Risk, Confidential- clinician must ask patient confidential questions as per needlestick policy
Inform Occupational Health Immediately (ideally within the hour of incident occurring)
Supervisor to complete DATIX form
Student and Supervisor to write up notes
