Infection Control Flashcards
Colonization vs infection
Colonisation is present of microorganism in body with growth & multi of organism, but no interaction between host & organism & no clinical s/s
Infection
Microorganism invade in to body & multiply in body causing s/s
Stage of infection
Incubation period
Prodromal stage
Full stage of illness
Convalescent period
Chain of infection
- Infectious agent
- Reservoir
3 portal of exit - Mode of transmissions
- Portal of entry
- Susceptible h9st
Infectious agent
E.g. bacteria
Virus
Fungi
Parasite
Herd immunity
Contagiouos disease spread in not immunized society
Fungi
Many resistant to treatment
Reservoir
E.g. people, water
Mode of transmission
Contact transmission
Droplet transmission
Indirect transmission
1. Airborne
2. Vector borne
3. Vehicle borne
Portal of entry
Ears
Mouth
Broken skin
Insect bite
Placenta
Vagina
Urethra
Anus
Factors affecting susceptability
Age
Immune system
Fatigue
Stress level
Factors increasing susceptibility to infection
Presence of preexisting illness
Radiation therapy: kill mai normal cell
Use of invasive device-create source for pathogen
Standard precaution
Hand hygiene
Use of personal protective devices
Respiratory hygiene
Prevention of blood and body fluid exposure
Environmental hygiene
Disinfection of used equipment
Wastes Management
Linen Management
Different cleansing agent
Alcohol soap- MRSA, VRE
Antimicrobial soap- c. Diff, norovirus
Prevention of sharp injury
- Do not hand pass exposed sharp
- Contaminated sharp shd not be recapped
- Sharp box x 3/4 full
Environment disinfection (漂白水
1:4 diluted bleach blood stained contamination
1:49 for routine environmental disninfection
Stainless steel use 70% alcohol
contact precaution
Hh
Wear glove & gown during care f patients
with suspected infections
Single room or gather similar symptoms patient
Droplet precaution- wear mask
Airborne precaution
N95
Negative pressure room isolation
Minimize patient transport
Hospital acquired infection / prevention
E.g. surgical site infection
Catheter associated urinary tract infection
Operation infection control
Maintain 20 air change in operation room every hour
Restrict number of ppl allowed
Use sterile operation equipment
Use aseptic technique
Prevention of Catheter induced blood stream infection
- Hh before insertion, dressing or palpation
- Use aseptic technique
- Cover site with dressing
- Change catheter every 3-4 days
Change IV fluid every 4 days - Disinfect IV port with 70% alcohol
- Remove catheter when not in use
Prevention of catheter urinary tract infection
- Need sin use
- Remove when no use
- Remain unobstructed
- Proper aseptic technique & hh
