Coy cdr considerations while sitting coy def loc [PSC GF]
- Pl def locs should be mutually supported within the coy as well as with the Pls of the flanking coys
- Selection of DF(SOS)
- Construction and concealment of the protective minefields and wire.
- Grnd allotted to the Pls should be clearly defined
- Fire of all LMG, MMG and A/T wpns should be coordinated
While organizing Pl def loc, pl cdr take following into account
- His def loc must remain concealed from en.
- Sections should be able to support each other
- Pl must be capable of all round def
- Tanks if any recoilless guns and MMG located in his def loc must be well protected
- Obstacle around the pl def loc should be covered by fire
- Section def posts should be within sight and voice control of pl HQ
- In order to minimize casualties, the pl must not be too congested
Task of airborne troops
- Main ops to secure bridges or defile
- Raid
- Est. of force on ground to assist advance of follow up group
- Assist main force in the est of a bridge-head across a water obstacle by neutralazing the defences on the far bank
Counter measures against air borne tps
- EW systems
- OP and accurate reporting
- Good signal communication to pass info between units and formations concerned.
- Mobile columns with auto weapons held in res especially in read of def
- Escorts of MT columns
- Units in rear prep to defend themselves including adm installations
- Close protection tps for the defense of VP
- Passive measures anti airborne obstacles camouflage and concealments, dummy
- What are the distinct advantages of reinforcing a locvis a vis CA for its recapture? what factors should be kept in mind while reinforcing a threatened loc?
The two options open to commander while conducting a def battle in mountain
seems to be equally imp. This however is very delicate dilemma which must be considered thoroughly before coming at a decision.
Advantages of reinforcing a loc vis a vis CA
a) Surprise: enemy is surprised to find more troops on the obj than appreciated by him
b) Commitment of enemy res: en res committed on the reinforced locality en time plan is put out of gear by making him take more time to capture a locality than appreciated by him
c) More casualty to en: more casualties can be inflicted on the enemy from defense against a CA
d) Initiative: reinforcing a locality would wrest initiative from the enemy as he would have to react to a situation created by defender rather than defender reacting to the attackers action
Factors to be considered while reinforcing a location
- Enemy intentions Enemy’s intentions and thrust line should be clear to the defender. Premature reinforcement of a loc may open an avenue for the attacker to any other locality.
- Time available Adequate time should be available for reinforcement of a locality. The troops earmarked for reinforcement should be stage forward as the battle picture keeps getting clear
- Troops available Availability of troops for reinforcement should be considered against weakening another locality thereby providing a fresh avenue to the enemy.
- What do u understand by false frontages? What basic considerations need to be borne in mind to achieve it
An area of ground occupied ahead of main defense by small dets with a view to deceiving the en as to layout of the main defense is termed as false frontage. Such a force would also provide EW, cause attrition and make the enemy deploy prematurely
Location of false frontage it may be located as under
1. In the general line of screens
2. Between the screens and FDL
3. Immediate ahead of FDL
