  3. Concealment of all defenses and artificial obstacles.
  4. Preparation of dummy positions.
  5. Development and improvement of road and tracks.

Q

Consideration of Spoiling attks [4Spoiling MC]

A
  1. Spoiling attks may involve a physical asslt.
  2. Spoiling attks may be launched against the en’s AA, FUP, asslt, or build up for a subsequent attk.
  3. Spoiling attks differ from raids, in that they are invariably launched to spoil an Imminent Hostile Attk, by disrupting and delaying it. To this extent, these are in the nature of pre-emptive offensive actions by the defender.
  4. In the mtns ,the wt of spoiling attk would normally be dependent on the fire of automatic wpns, whereas in the plains the employment of Armour is done.
  5. Max arty fire should be brought to bear on the en during such attks. A proper fire plan must be made if the spoiling attk is preplanned.
  6. Composition of the force, nomination of the objs and timings, will vary with the level of the cdr ordering it, avail resources and tac sit.

Q

 Breaking up the Asslt

A
  1. Come under the fire of arty, mortars, AT wpns and MMGs.
  2. At the same time, be disorganized by obstacles and minefields.
  3. Come at close range, under the fire of the most effective wpns i.e. inf small arms; their accurate, sustained and controlled fire produces a devastating effect; flamethrowers if avail, will also be very effective.
  4. If the en attks with tanks and infantry, every effort must be made to separate these two

 Deliberate CA

A
  1. Organized at Div level and above to destroy or throw the en out of the defense who have penetrated into a defended zone or sector such as to threaten over all security.
  2. Dedicated reserves are earmarked.
  3. Tps are from outside the defenses.
  4. Involved detail planning, coordination and rehearsal.

 Local CA

A
  1. Organized at Bde level or below to evict en forces that have penetrated or overrun the defense sector/area/locality.
  2. Dedicated reserves are not available.
  3. Tps are from within the defenses.
  4. Various contingencies are planned and rehearsed.

 C Pen

A
  1. Action taken to halt en which have penetrated into def and/or overran a part of it.
  2. C Pen precedes CA.
  3. At Bde and below, CPen is done by Readjusting Defs and Resiting of wpns. At Div and above Separate Tps are earmarked for it.
  4. C Pen is carried out before en reaches LOP.

Q

 Counter attack:

A
  1. Action taken to evict the enemy who has penetrated into the defense.
  2. CA follows C pen.
  3. Involves physical movement of tps from outside or within the location.
  4. CA is launched when GTI is lost or threatened.
  5. IF CA fails, the CA force will resort to C pen IOT facilitate CA launched by higher fmn.

Q

 Reinforcement

A
  1. Additional weapons and troops are brought from outside to strengthen the def
  2. Carried out to increase the combat power of a def area or locality
  3. Involves move of the tps/ wpns from one location to another
  4. Carried out before en est. contact
17
Q

Readj

A
  1. Changing the loc of tps, wpns to meet the immediate threat from within the resources with a view to bring more combat power in front of an attking en.
  2. Total str and wpn in def does not increase
  3. Involve limited move within def area/ loc
  4. Carried out in the face of en when contact is imminent and direction of asslt is known
18
Q

 Limit of penetration (ISD GE)

A
  1. It is an easily identifiable lateral alignment, beyond which any penetration by the en jeopardize the cdr’s plan for defence
  2. Planning consideration for LOP :
    a) It should be on the en side of VG and encompass areas essential for CA plans
    b) Suitability of grnd for limiting penetration, in relation to en capabilities and own resources must be evaluated
    c) Defensive minefield should normally be based on it
  3. Composition of C Pen tps will depend on:
    a) Gaps to be covered
    b) Extent of Sp from flanking def areas
