The Whiskey Rebellion 1794
Washington president
Rebellion occurs in PA
PA raises taxes on whiskey infuriating the people
Raised taxes because they didn’t have enough money to run the state
Threatened to kill tax collectors and burn down the gov. building in PA
Washington sends an army of 10,000 to crush the rebellion
Sent a message not to mess with America
War of 1812
Fort McHenry
Americans fight against the British, Brits think we are a joke
Out West, the Brits weren’t even supposed to be there
Building forts and egging on the Native Americans
In the ocean they were kidnapping people and forcing them into their Navy
The British sailed up the Chesapeake after defeating Washington and burning down the White House to take over Baltimore
The canons of Fort McHenry sunk enough ships to scare the British
Panic of 1819
Economic Depression
People should buy stocks in the middle of a Great Depression but they sell their stocks
Monroe Doctrine 1823
Been around for 40 years and feeling cocky
Getting bigger and badder, more sophisticated, more street cred
Decide to tell Europe that this is OUR side of earth do not mess with it

Led by Alexander Hamilton
Strong central government led by industry and wealth
Emphasis on manufacturing, shipping, and trade
Loose interpretation of the Constitution
Favored the national bank
Favored protective tarriffs

Democratic Republicans
Led by Thomas Jefferson
Strong state governments led by the “common man”
Emphasis on agriculture “Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens” - Thomas Jefferson
Strict interpretation
Opposed the national bank
Opposed protective tariffs

Capitalism
Creates a lot of jobs and a lot of wealth
America has the most $$$
Feeling that you should and you can make as much money as you want doing whatever you want
Capitalists want less taxation and regulation
The gov should stop penalizing hard work and success
Socialism
Came after Capitalism Born as a rejection to Capitalism Believed there was too much for too few Socialists hate Capitalism Philosophy is you are going to create one big middle class family Want a classless society Socialists want a 28th Amendment guaranteeing everyone the big five: health care, education, housing, clothing, food Taxing the wealthy more
Communism 1848
Karl Marx was a German philosopher
Communism is militant or radical Socialism
He hated Capitalists but weren’t a big fan of Socialists because they were too nice or too slow
Didn’t want to shrink Capitalist’s yachts he wanted to sink them
He wanted to overthrow the owners believed the workers of the world who are suffering would get angry enough to wipe out the upper class
Communists want a revolution that will bring the big five
Seneca Falls (1848)
A lot of women were against feminists
The first and largest women’s convention
#1 issue was the right to vote
Terrible sexism
Many upper class women were involved in charity work because they couldn’t get involved in real work
Feminism is the belief that women are equal to men and should be treated as such
Transcendentalism
To transcend is to rise above or surpass
Transcendentalism is the belief that you can rise above the insanity of life and improve yourself as a person
WANT LESS

Not really what they want to do (bills, rent, etc,)
