What is urbanization?
When the population moved from rural (country) to urban (city) areas
What is unionization?
To form a union and demand better working conditions

Why were farmers moving away from farms?
Manual labor no longer needed because there were machines that could do the work
Why did the population of Montreal increase drastically during this time?
Factories were opening up so people were moving to the city and 3 million immigrants arrived from Europe

Textile, Shoes, Leather, Food processing, Flour and Sugar, Railway Equipment
Describe the working conditions at this time.
Very dangerous, long days, little pays, no ventilation, wooden fire traps, no child labor laws, abuse
Describe the living conditions at this time.
Overcrowded, spread of disease, high infant mortality rate, dirty, no fresh air, no green space, etc.
