All the activities which have to be performed in an organization have to be identified first before being broken down into smaller activities for it to be assigned to individuals or groups whose job titles and qualifications are defined
Division of Labor
Similar or related activities are grouped into departments. Others call these units as sections, divisions, bureaus, ministries, etc.
Departmentation
Once the departments are made, the managers are given their levels of authority (aka hierarchy) and reporting relationships between the heads of the different units.
Delegation of Authority and Responsibility
Department managers determine the number of subordinates he needs to carry out the departments objectives and activities
