Q

Define an advisory, level 1 caution, level 2 caution, and warning. What indications trigger in each case?

A

Advisory - systems parameters monitoring. Relevant page is shown on the SD and the parameter pulses green. With single ECAM “ADV” appears on screen.

Level 1 caution - failure leading to a loss of redundancy or system degradation. No chime. ECAM caution listed but no procedure shown.

Level 2 caution - system failure without direct consequence on flight safety. Single chime, steady master caution, and relevant system page.

Level 3 - aircraft is in a dangerous configuration or the failure impacts flight safety. Continuous chime, master warning, systems page and red note on EWD.

Q

If only 1 ECAM operative, how is an advisory brought to crew attention?

A

ADV appears on upper part of EWD and the associated pb on the ECAM control panel flashes to identify the appropriate system page.

Q

What is meant by independent, primary and secondary failures?

A

Independent - a failure that affects an isolated system or item of equipment without degrading the performance of others in the aircraft

Primary - a failure of a system or item of equipment that costs the aircraft the use of other systems or items of equipment. Usually shown BOXED.

Secondary - the loss of a system or an item of equipment resulting from a primary failure. Usually shown with a *

Q

What is the purpose of the TO and LAND INHIBIT memos? In what phases of flight are they disabled?

A

Inhibit some ECAM messages to avoid crew distraction in critical phases of flight.

T/O INHIBIT - Phases 3,4,5
LAND INHIBIT - Phases 7 & 8

13
Q

When should the EMER CANC button be used? What effect does this have on warnings and cautions?

A

Only.used to supress spurious master cautions.

Cautions - cancels any present cautions for the rest of the flight.

Warning - cancels the aural warning and extinguishes the warning light. It does not affect the ECAM - warnings will still appear there!

16
Q

What does the IAS target being magenta or blue signify?

A

Magenta FMGC target speed.
Blue is manually selected speed.

17
Q

What symbols are used to represent V1, VR and V2.

A

Blue number 1
Blue hollow circle
Speed index triangle

18
Q

What are F, S and Green Dot speeds?

A

F - min flap retraction speed
S - min slat retraction
Green dot- engine out speed clean.

19
Q

When would the sideslip index change from yellow to blue beta index?

A

In case of engine failure at takeoff or go around.

20
Q

How does the target altitude indication change if the baro know is pushed/pulled

A

QNH/STD

21
Q

What info does FPV provide vertically and laterally?

A

V = FPA
L = Track

22
Q

How is an excessive ILS deviation indicated on the PFD?

A

LOC scale flashes and continues to flash is deviation exceeds 1/4 dot.for 2 seconds whilst.the aircraft is between 15 and 1000ft.
0.8 degrees per dot.

GS scale flashes continuously if deviation exceeds 1 dot for 2 seconds.
0.4 degrees per dot

23
Q

What information is provided in the permanent data section on the SD

A

Temp (TAT, SAT, delta ISA)
G load
UTC time
Gross Weight

24
Q

Which systems clock sends time information?

A

A fully independent clock on RHS of control panel. Sends time to the central fault data unit, flight data interface unit, and the FMGC.
