Engines Flashcards
What type of engine is installed on the aircraft and with how many FADECs?
IAE V2500-A5. 1 FADEC per engine with 2 channels.
What does the FADEC do following an Automatic Start Abort?
Announces fault and identifies it in ECAM message. Will start an abort sequence.
Describe a normal automatic start sequence
Thrust levers idle
ENG MODE selctor IGN/Start
Announce ENGINE 2(1) start
After all Amber crosses except N1 and N2 messages have dissapear4d on ECAM
ENG 2 MASTER lever on
N2 increases
30s after MASTER on ignition on
FF increases
20s after FF, EGT increases
N1 increases before N2 is 34%
At 43% igniter indication off
Above 43% starter valve closes
What are the normal engine parameters after start at ISA sea level?
EPR 1.01
N1 21.4%
FF 350kg/h
EGT 424
N2 57.8%
What is the role of FADEC during a manual start?
Passive survey of engine parameters uo to 50% N2. Crew are made aware of abnormal starts by ECAM warning.
During a manual start process, what does pressing the MAN START pb do?
Opens the starter valve
During a manual start what happens when the MASTER sw is selected ON? When should this be selected?
When N2 reaches max motoring speed (min 16%) and after 30 seconds, ENG MSTR can be turned on. Igniters A & B and fuel flow come on.
What closes the start valve on a manual start and when?
FADEC at 43% N2
When will the highlighted grey background around N2 indication disappear during engine start?
When the engine start/crank procedure has finished.
In what situation should an inflight relight not be attempted? Why?
Engine fire or engine damage. No FADEC protection.
In what circumstances would you see an illuminated FAULT light on the ENG panel?
Position of HP fuel shutoff valve is abnormal, OR start aborted OR malfunction of thrust control.
How can the pilot cary out a dry cranking cycle manually? When would this be appropriate?
ENG MASTER to OFF
ENG MODE to CRANK
ENG START to ON
Usually done after an unsuccessful start attempt on the ground. (5 min max CRANK cycle time)
When the engine is running, what causes the continuous ignition to operate automatically?
Anti ice on
Max TO thrust EPR or Rated N1 mode
Flex TO thrust EPR mode
EIU data failed
Approach idle selected
In-floghy unscheduled sub idle or surge
Master lever on-off-on
What are the limiting EGTs for TO/GA, MCT and starting
TO/GA 635
MCT 610
Starting 635
What is the minimum IASfor full reverse? Can it be used in emergency?
70kts but can be used to full stop in event of RTO.
What are the engine oil limitations?
Continuous 155 degrees
Cont (15 mins) 165 degrees
Min Starting temp -40
Min temp pre takeoff +50
Min oil quantity 11 qrt plus 0.3/hr
Can the TFLEX be lower than the flat temperature TREF or the actual.OAT?
No
What are the starter limitations?
15s pause between successive start cycles.
30 min cooling period after 3 attempts.
2 min cycle max on a manual start.
5 min max CRANK cycle.
Do not run starter when N2 is above 10% on ground and 18% in flight.
What happens if you hold the A/THR disconnect button for more than 15 seconds?
A/THR will disconnect for the remainder of the flight. All A/THR modes including A FLOOR will be lost.
The A/THR will be recovered at the next FMGC power-up on the ground.
Which hydraulic actuators operates on thrust reversers 1 and 2 respectfully?
Green and Yellow
When and how is FADEC electrically powered?
verify
What happens at 43% N2 during an automatic start?
Igniters go off and start valve closes
