Define independent behaviour
when someone does not respond to a group/social norms. they may see others obeying or conforming but do not pay attention or conform

Resisting pressures to Conform?
Giving answers in private-dont appear foolish-asch supports this
Non-conforming role model- someone who doesnt conform to a social setting-asch found that one stooge going against majority=80% conformity drop
Size of Group-the samller the majority, the less likely someone would want to conform
Resisting pressures to obey?
Disobedient role model-a role model that does not obey to the person of authority-milgram, obedience fell from 65% to 10% when one person disobeyed
Time to think&find social support-the nurse study found that there were less obedience when asked around for advice
what is locus of control?
it refers to the amount of control you have over the successes or failures you have of your life, ie is it you/an external factor
what is the differences between internal and external locus of control?
Internal- i should have studied more (this links to independent behaviour, ie less likely to conform)
external- i had a crap teacher

interviewed two groups of Jewish people who lived in Germany through the Holocaust and the Nazis
they compared 406 people who rescued the jews and 126 who didnt rescue them
FOUND that those who rescued the jews had an INTERNAL LOC
