What is the mechanism of action of N-acetylcysteine?
Replenishes body stores of glutathione
excess paracetamol deplenishes glutathione > needed to detoxify intermediate product of paracetamol metabolism (NAPQI) > stays in toxic form > hepatocyte death

blocks adenosine receptors
MoA of methotrexate?
competitively inhibits dihydrofolate reductase
MoA of allopurinol?
inhibits xanthine oxidase
MoA of carbamazepine?
modulates sodium and calcium channels (in the CNS)
What can be used to reverse heparin?
protamine sulphate (only partially affective against LMWF, fully against unfractioned)
reversal not usually needed due to short half life unless significant haemorrhage occurs

What is flumazenil?
benzo antagonist
reverse sedative effects of benzos, especially in overdose
