Incomplete Cord Injury Flashcards
What is this a presentation of?
Hemi-section of spinal cord causing ipsilateral loss of proprioception, vibration and motor function below the lesion; and contralateral loss of pain and temperature sensation from 1-2 levels below the lesion.
Brown-Sequard syndrome
What is the cause of central cord syndrome?
Results from hyperextension in the presence of osteophytic spurs, often in older people. Greater motor deficit in upper limbs than lower limbs.
What is the cause of anterior cord syndrome?
Infarction of the spinal cord in the distribution of the anterior spinal artery.
What is this a presentation of?
Complete loss of motor function, pain and temperature sensation below the lesion. Vibration and joint position senses are retained.
Anterior cord syndrome
What is this a presentation of?
Pain and paraesthesia in neck, upper arms, and torso. May be mild paresis of upper limbs. Rare.
Posterior cord syndrome
