What condition is responsible when there is a presentation similar to a space-occupying lesion but no lesion is found?
Idiopathic intracranial hypertension
What is this a presentation of?
Obese female, 30s, headache worse on lying/straining/coughing, papilloedema, bilateral tinnitus, CN VI palsy, blurred vision, loss of colour vision.
Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (cannot be diagnosed without papilloedema)
What conditions and medication is idiopathic intracranial hypertension associated with?
Endocrine, SLE, CKD, IDA, oral COCP.
How is suspected idiopathic intracranial hypertension investigated?
Normal CT scan
What is the management for idiopathic intracranial hypertension?
Acutely reduce the pressure with an LP (not if focal neurology), weight loss, acetazolamide or topiramate to aid weight loss.
