2. Responsive
3. Flexible
4. Convenient
5. Accommodating
6. Welcoming
7. Realistic
Why are inclusive environments important?
. People react to building differently
. Avoid discrimination
. Equality Act 2010 - protects based on the key characteristics

Part M - access to and use of buildings
2015 changed it into 2 docs

Vol 2 - buildings other than dwellings
. Ramp gradients
. Guidelines for circulation
. Rules on facilities
. British standards go beyond part M

Physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse affect on a persons ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
What is a DDA / Access statement
.Sets out design philosophy and key design issues posed by the development
. Should be undertaken during early design stage to set standards for accessibility
. Submitted as appendix to planning docs
How does Equality Act 2010 impact inclusive environments
. Protects against discrimination in work place and wider society
. Obliges service providers to considers barriers created by building features
. Provision to allow access to and across each place (including public realm)
What does London Planning Policy say on inclusive environments?

Requires developments to achieve highest standard of accessible design to ensure:
. Can be used safely and easily by all people despite age, gender, economic background, ability, ethnicity

Accessibility consultant
What are reasonable adjustments w regards to inclusive environments
Physical adjustments
Lighting and acoustics
Way finding and signage
Workplace adjustments
Digital accessibility
How is part M structured
Vol 1. Dwellings
Vol 2. Non-dwellings
What is uk gov definition of inclusive design
Creating environments that work for everybody, everyone can equally, confidently and with dignity use buildings, public spaces and transport
