Incarnation
God taking on the human condition in Jesus
Annunciation
When the angel Gabriel asked Mary to accept the role of the mother of the son of God
Birth of Jesus
Hes divine origin as it is a virign birth. The child conceived in her is from the holy spirit
The word was God
A word comes from inside a person and is an expression of what is inside that person. In the same way, the Word of God comes from inside God and is God’s self expression. The word of God is Jesus
The word became flesh
This is when God became a human and took on a human nature he did this to live as a full human being and to get rid of sin
Son of man
It can be used: as a general title that any person might use to refer to themselves; it is a title that just refers to a normal human being.
As a title for someone who has been given power and authority by God
Son of God
God is eternal, so has no beginning or the end. This means that Jesus could not become God after his death so the resurrection proves that Jesus always was God, but during his life on earth.
Ichthus
A symbol of a fish, based on a Greek acronym that translates as ‘Jesus Christ’, Son of God, Saviour
Alpha & Omega
A symbol made from the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, which are used to show that God and Jesus are eternal
Chi Rho
A symbol to represent Jesus, made up of the first two letters of his name in Greek
Sacred heart
A representation of Jesus that focuses on his burning love for everybody
Crucifix
A representation of Jesus on the cross on which he died
Jesus in Art
In art Jesus is either dipicted as a human or God showing his divinity and humanity
Sermon on the mount
Teachings that Jesus has given christians such as rules and values to apply in their lives
The beatitude 1,2
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
