Incarnation
God loves us so much he is willing to experience human hardship and sacrifice to save us from sin
Lukes account of the annunciation
Focuses mainly of mary and her role . He writes about how mary was chosen by God due to her freeness of sin . Gabriel was sent down to inform her of God’s son
“Will be called Son of the most high”
Matthews account of the annunciation
Focuses on Josephs role . He describes the dream Jospeh had that revealed the truth about Mary’s pregnancy through the Holy Spirit .
“You are to name him Jesus “
The angel also refers to Jesus as Emmanuel which is a Jewish name meaning God is with us
The word of God
Jesus is the Word of God “made flesh” he became human and was sent down to earth to teach us about God
Word of God beliefs
Eternal-Like God the word has always existed “in the beginning there was the word
The word is how God expresses his love- the word gives light and guides us how to live “light of all people”
The word was distinct from God- while they are united the word is separated “the word was WITH God “
Jesus as the Son of man
Jesus was FULLY human
“The son of man must undergo great suffering “
Like all humans Jesus had emotions . He felt pain and mourned for lost ones
Jesus as the son of God
Jesus was FULLY God
When Jesus was arrested and questioned by the Jewish council he told them that he was the Son of God
It emphasizes his divinity and power

Used in times of persecution , to check if a person was a christian they would draw one side of the symbol and you would draw another declaring your faith
The word is made up of a series of Greek words saying Jesus christ Son of God saviour
Alpha and Omega
The first and last letters of the alphabet . They express the belief that God is eternal . He was there at the beginning and he will be there at the end of time
Chi-rho
The first 2 letters of the greek alpha bet combined to form a cross shape . Reminding us of Gods sacrifice

Inspire people
Something for people tp focus on while praying
Help people learn about aspects of Gods work
Why does the church approve of religious art
Jesus was fully human therefore like all humans he can be expressed in art form
Jesus was fully god therefore it is acceptable to show God in art form
Jesus died for all humans therefore he can be showed as any ethnicity
Reasons against art
God is infinite therefore it is impossible for anyone to accurately represent him
Art can mislead people
It is against the second commandement . Do not worship “false idols” many may pray to the actual statue not to God
The sacred heart statue
Jesus’ passive expression shows his peaceful nature
The flaming heart represents his burning love for all of humanity
The beatitudes
Are a series of statements which describe approaches to living that will be rewarded in heaven
“Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth”
“Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God”
“Blessed are the merciful for they will receive mercy”
Parable of the sheep and Goats
Jesus tells us about two types of people . The sheep are those will be judged favorably due to their kind acts towards others whereas the goats will be judged harsher due to their selfish ways
St Irenaus’ teachings about Jesus
God is invisible and will never be understood by humans.
Christians can understand God better through Jesus as he reflects some of Gods qualities
Through Jesus we can strengthen our bond with God
Misunderstandings about Jesus
The teaching now is that Jesus is fully human and God . He is equal in the triune. However originally many did not see the son as eternal or an equal to the father .
The catholic church corrected this with 2 documents
Dei Verbum
Verbum Domini
Dei verbum
“Tell them of the innermost being of
God”
God is revealed and speaks through Jesus . Without Jesus we would have an even smaller understanding about the nature of God .
Verbum Domini
“The eternal word became small . Small enough to fit into a manger”
This again expresses that whilst Jesus may of been born as a human . He is the word made flesh and is an eternal entity
“Word of God is lord of all things “
Sacramental nature of reality
A sacrament is a sign of Gods love
Because all of creation is sustained by God and was made by him , it is a sign of his love for all of us therefore it has a sacramental nature
What is Grace
Pours out from the trinity and gives life
Pours into our hearts strengthening our relationship with God
Gives believers strength
How does the incarnation show the sacramental nature of creation
Jesus was the ultimate gift . It shows us what God was prepared to sacrifice for his creation
Jesus was Gods active presence on earth and continues to spreads God love
The seven sacraments
Baptism-the first steps into someones journey of faith
Confirmation-power of the holy spirit is renewed and it deepens the persons faith as candidate assumes responsibility
Eucharist-the person receives Jesus strengthening their bond in God
Marriage-Couple accept that God is active in both their lives . God pours his love into them
Ordination-A person fully commits to God . They become an instrument of God being able to forgive wrongs in Gods name
Reconciliation- A person is forgiven by God
Strengthening their relationship with God
Sacrament of the sick- Strengthens the person and forgives their sins so that they are judged favourably.
Imago Dei
Image of God
The bekief that we are all born in Gods image therefore all life must be respected and proctected
This is a reason why most christians oppose Abortion
