Catholic Christianity Paper 1 Flashcards
How does the creation of Adam reflect catholic belief?
Adam is shown as the perfect man showing us that humanity was the pinnacle of Gods creation
Adam is holding his hand out to God reflecting the idea that humanity want a close relationship with God
God is above Adam reflecting his transcendence
Both are lying in the same position . God made humans in his own image
What in the creation of adam goes against catholic teaching
Both are the same size making us believe that Adam and God are equal however we know that God is above all humans
How does the hand of God reflect catholic beliefs
Light from Gods hands travel to the edges of the universe showing that he was the original creator
Gods hand is large in comparison the the universe reflecting his greatness
What does Genesis tell us about the nature of God?
God is creator - he created everything meaning that we should only ever praise him
God is transcendent “then god said let there be light “
God is all powerful- “God saw everything that he was made and indeed it was good” God is powerful enough to make everything the exact way he wants
Humans share the spirit of God
“Breathed into his nostrils the breath of life “
God breathed his spirit into Adam forming life. God spirit gives us some or his quality
Humans are gifted free will
God does not want anyone to follow him who do not want to .
Christians do not believe free will allows them to do anything they want . They use their free will to please God
Steward ship
God tells Adam and eve to “have dominion over every living thing “
This means that we aw humans have a responsibility to take care of the earth
Laudato si
Written by Pope Francis the letter reiterates that we as humans have responsibility over the earth and that we must stop treating it like it contains unlimited resources
Dignity of human beings
We were all made from God therefore we are all born equal
“In his image”
Therefore everybody should be respected and taken care of

How is the Bible the word of God
God guided its writers through the Holy Spirit
How does the magisterium help us understand the Bible
Due to the outdated teachings of the Bible the magisterium (guided by the holy spirit) modernises it’s teachings so that we can live by them.
Catholic interpretations of Genesis stories
They do not believe the creation stories actually happened . This allows them to believe in more scientific beliefs on the origin of the universe
